I, like
many other had the intention of opening a web site with the
photos of mom, dad, the kids, etc...
I was
in the middle of preparation when I heard the news of Sarah's
disappearance. It occurred to me that by creating this web
page, we are facilitating the job of the potential predators.
With each photo on the site, there usually are comments about
the persons hobbies, things they like to do, preferred activities,
the address of the family member, even the school address
of kids.
What
forgetfulness !
I think,
us the parents, need to be more responsible. A potential
criminal, can draw an excellent picture of the whole family
include faces of each single member. When you start a search
engine using the word "family", you get back a list containing
millions of addresses.
Isn't
this an ideal tool for someone to find us? Although, as users
we should know that, misuse of these kinds of information
is very easy.
If it
is absolutely necessary to transmit photos of kids over the
net, do it via secured channels whose password is only
known by those who are supposed to know. Even better, do
not publish photos of yourselves or others on the personal
web sites. This is one way to protect your children from unpleasant
experiences.
