Vecindario in Gran Canaria joins over 150 towns and cities worldwide in releasing balloons to draw attention to the plight of missing English girl Madeleine McCann and local boy Yeremi Vargas.

154 balloons will be set off into the air this morning in the town, 104 representing the number of days 7-year-old Yeremi has been missing and 50 for Madeleine. The release is part of an international campaign by the Find Madeleine association, which has organised events in 50 countries. Local mayor Siverio Matos urged the people of Vecindario to turn out in force for the symbolic ceremony in the town square at 10.30.
